Meandering Mondays: Bora Bora

I’ve recently come back from a quick jaunt down to Antigua and Barbua in the Caribbean. During my few days stay on the island, I was able to meet and chat with Kraig Becker, and adventure travel writer, who shared all about his escapades in Bora Bora where he had honeymooned a few months earlier.

Bora Bora has always been on my travel list, but like the many other cities I want to see, I had no immediate plans to wanderlust there. Until Kraig. His stories were so fascinating that I’m now in the process of working out a way to make it to the French Polynesia sooner rather than later.

Bora Bora is a small South Pacific island northwest of Tahiti. Because the island is surrounded by sand-fringed motus (islets) and a turquoise lagoon protected by a coral reef, it’s become known for its scuba diving and snorkeling. Of course with the gorgeous crystal blue water and lush greenery, it’s also become quite a popular luxury resort destination. Many of the resorts consists of guest bungalows perched on stilts over the water. At the island’s center rises Mt. Otemanu, a dormant volcano.

If the pictures aren’t impressive enough, the fact Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux, with the world accessible to their fingertips, chose to honeymoon in Bora Bora lets me know it’s time to kick my vacation planning into high gear. Enjoy.
